Hello,

I was recently having issues on a server that kept rejecting all emails from the server to the following domain names.

comcast.net
&
optonline.net

But all or most other emails were delivering just fine to other email servers such as gmail & yahoo.

Below is the bounce back message I would receive from comcast.net when attempting to email a comcast.net email address.

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

username@comcast.net
SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
host mx2.comcast.net [76.96.30.116]: 554 imta18.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net comcast 184.171.163.162 Comcast requires that all mail servers must have a PTR record with a valid Reverse DNS entry. Currently your mail server does not fill that requirement. For more information, refer to:
http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/PTR

All this did was confuse me more.
But it lead me in the correct direction toward the fix.

Here is what I did.

First I went here as the message suggested http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/PTR

Second I did what it states in the article....

"Your mail server's IP address is not blocked by Comcast. As soon as your mail administrator properly configures Reverse DNS on your mail server, you will be able to email the Comcast network again. When contacting your email administrator, you should include the error message contained in the email that alerted you to this problem. This error message contains important information to help your email administrator resolve this issue."

I contacted my server Administrator with a copy of the email.

They added a Reverse DNS entry and it fixed everything.
