Does Dead URL Links Hurt - Effect Web Site Search Engine Rank ??

I was once asked the following question????

Does Dead URL Links Hurt - Effect Web Site Search Engine Rank ??

Answer: Yes

The full answer would be that 'Yes it can' but most errors are ignored.
The reason is most errors are ignored is due to files or url(s) that are missing tend to lead to a 404 error.
But dead links can effect page rank in search engines.

My solution....

I do the following.

Google WebMaster Tools are extremely handy and very efficient when you are learning how to check and monitor website links. Sometimes URL links are dead not because the page no longer exists. Never the less, the url link is broken due to a typing error or wrong spelling when the URL link was originally added. Operating with Google WebMaster Tools will help you in fixing the URL links and will permit you to terminate the individual 'pages - URL links' from Google search results. This is a great procedure to ensure ultimate search ranking on search engines such as Bing, Google and Yahoo!

To use Google WebMaster tools to first detect broken url links, first you will need to register for Google WebMaster tools and next verify your web site. Once you have registered, click on the diagnostics menu tab on the left and click Crawl Errors. Next click on the Not Found Category and then click to view which web page contains the broken URL link. To make sure the URL is indexed on the search engines such as Google, you next should copy and paste the correct URL link in the Google search to see if it turns up any results for the site. Once you find these broken URL links, it is now time to terminate them. Next click on Site Configuration and again click Crawl Access. Now you can click on remove URL and New Removal Request. Type in the URL you want to be removed from Google. Then make sure the first option is selected and then click on Add. The URL link you want to remove should now show up in the list. From this menu you can add more pages for termination if there is more than one. Next, click on submit removal request. This part of this process usually takes around 2 to 3 days for Google to completely remove the URL. From then on, you should see an increase in your search engine page rank. To make sure it has been removed, repeat this procedure to see if the URL link still exists. If it is missing, you will now know the issue has been fixed.

Keep in mind there are other methods.
But I use this procedure.... Good Luck!!!! :!: :!: :!:    :D
